Warm days are just so lovely
and the Danes flow into the sun when finally the heat is there

2003.08.09 Sletten Strand, Denmark, finally cooled today’s 29 degrees down

Here in Denmark it is hard to die from heat
The heat record (36.4) is from 1975.08.10 in Holstebro
I experienced it myself at the very highest level on a Monday

The day at Sletten Strand in 2003 was only 29 degrees C
nothing to write home about

2003.8.08 – 27 gr. i Haubro, Himmerland, DK

2003.08.13 Temperature in Haubro, Himmerland – 31 degrees

These temperatures are what we boast of here in Denmark
certainly nothing special

But the heat – in many other countries – was that summer killing

The mightiest disaster in Europe for a hundred years
occurred in the summer of 2003 in the form of a violent heat wave
but the catastrophe – and those over 100,000 died
it and they have “everybody” forgotten

While we had a little over 30 degrees here in DK . . .

2003.08.15 Cooling tent in Paris

. . . France had to set up cooling cooling tents for dead bodies
The photo here is taken 2003.08.15
where there was a heat wave in southern Europe

In France more than 20.000 (Paris alone, 10.460) people died
Yes – 20.000 persons more than normal
died in August
showed a compilation from funeral companies

The Medical Association President Patrick Pelloux stated that
“It is a humanitarian disaster”

Pretty similar were the numbers
in all the other countries of Southern- and Central Europe

Every year, in the USA, more people die of the heat
than all other natural disasters combined
more than forest fires, typhoones, volcanoes, etc. – combined

In the Far East, there are frequent violent heat waves
Here are some examples from the summer of 2018:

Heatwave in Tokyo, august 2008

Heatwave Tokyo, july 2018

A parasol (umbrella against the sun) lowers the temperature 4-5 dgr.

Seoul in Korea, summer 2018

2018.07.23 nåede temperaturen i Tokyo op på 41 gr.

In August it became just a bit warmer, namely 41.3

 Heat waves require life
and we talk about 100,000 lives annually
It’s the old ones as well as the young children who die

During a heat wave it´s hard to find old people outdoor
they do not come out when it’s so hot

The kids are not asked at all – the parents don´t ask them
and they have a very hard time in the heat

It is only children and old persons who die of heat
Everybody else has a hard time in the heat – but we do not die of it
